Zelda Series
Nintendo has never really tried to hide the fact that they are milking their old games for everything they are worth. Classic Nintendo games are constantly being remade with slight differences; however, this is now expected from Nintendo, and it could be argued that people like these games for their sense of nostalgia from their childhood gaming. So, this is not my main problem with this series.
Most people my age started playing video games around when we started getting interested in the opposite sex, and the urge to be ‘cool’ started becoming more and more powerful. So, I would be fascinated to know how Zelda was pitched before it was made. The game follows the classic plot of a hero rescuing a princess and/or the world (with a princess in the story still). However, the hero is a very effeminate male elf called Link who uses the magic of music to help obtain his goals. This pretty much covers it for Young Link, Adult Link, Toon Link, and all other versions of Link.
As an American, I don't know about high schools in New Zealand, but if this idea was voiced by a student in an American high school, he or she would spend their remaining years hiding from wedgies as best they could. They are good games; however, in the end there is no denying the fact you are playing as a very effeminate elf who is out to save a princess/world with the magic of music.
