No Internet? You're Not Alone

No Internet? You're Not Alone

Y2K resurrected from the dead

UPDATE: The internet is back, as of 2.15pm. Hope everyone with an assignment due this arvo can recover from this 25-minute break. Turns out the outage was caused by DDOS attack.

Wifi outages are affecting all of New Zealand at the moment.

The issues appear to affect Orcon, Slingshot, Stuff Fibre, and Sky Broadband, who are all owned by Vocus, an Aussie company. The issues affect most locations in New Zealand, according to people who reported outages to Critic.

Stuff Fibre's 2pm update said that the outage "possibly affects all customers on the Stuff Fibre network".

EFTPOS services are down as well, according to New World staff in Dunedin.

One person had lost their connection in Devonport, another in Mount Vic, and six Critic staff members dropped off a Zoom call at exactly the same time down in Dunedin.

Aimee, a student in Dunedin, said "I am being affected by the wifi outage and I have two reports due at 5, I am quite stressed."

"My wifi died the same time as others," said Sophie from Milton. Leigh from Ashburton needs it for work, like most of us in Level 3, and was still unable to access the internet at 2.30pm. At 2.46, Mark still had no internet in Feilding.

There is "no estimated restoral time" at the moment according to Orcon's Facebook post, but they've said the issue "affects all services" and they are "investigating urgently". Stuff Fibre have said they will provide an update at 2pm.

More to come.
