Someone Stole an Ambulance Last Night and Drove it for 40 Minutes Before they got Caught

O Week 2018 ended with a bang after some loose unit in South Dunedin stole an ambulance and led police on a high speed for almost 40 minutes before they got caught.

According to police, the ambulance was stolen at around 11pm and was stopped by road spikes which were set up around Waihola.

Reddit user clayeon was listening to a police scanner at the time and posted updates while the chase was happening.

Around about 11:00pm two(?) ambulance officers walked out from their job they were at in a street in South Dunedin, to find out that their Ambulance has gone missing.

They Radio'd into the Ambulance Communications saying that their Ambulance has gone missing from their job. The Communications person, then said that they were tracking it, on the Southern Motorway, heading South towards Mosgiel.

Ambulance Comms person calls police about it, and they start sending units from Dunedin, to head out that way to chase it down, also in the process, sending two units that were near Milton (~40 min away from Dunedin) to start heading towards to Dunedin

The two coming North from Milton then set up spikes near a bridge, and waited for the Ambulance to come near to them. Give it about 15 mins, the Ambulance hit the Spikes.

2 of the four tires on the Ambulance instantly burst. Police start a pursuit of it, eventually all the tires give out and they pull it over.

A local man in his 30s was arrested.
