The Executive is proposing changes to the OUSA Constitution that would reshape how student representation works from 2027 onwards. The proposal includes new roles, changes to existing portfolios, and the addition of a dedicated Disabilities Representative. These are significant changes that would affect how OUSA advocates for students and how the Executive operates in the years ahead.
And that's exactly why your input matters.
The SGM isn't designed to be a rubber stamp. Constitutional changes require a two-thirds majority of students present, meaning the outcome genuinely depends on who shows up. Whether you think the proposed structure is a great step forward, have concerns about
specific changes, or simply want to understand why the Executive believes reform is necessary, this is the forum to hear the arguments and make up your own mind.
Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask difficult questions.
Want to know why some roles are being renamed? Ask. Curious about how responsibilities will change in practice? Ask. Unsure whether a particular position should exist at all? Ask that too.
Student representation works best when students engage critically with it. A healthy organisation isn't one where everyone agrees. It's one where ideas are tested, challenged, and improved through discussion.
So come along at 12pm on Wednesday in the main common room. Bring your mates, bring your questions, and bring your opinions. Whether you're fully supportive, completely skeptical, or somewhere in between, your voice is part of the conversation.
And yes, there'll be a free sausage sizzle afterwards. But the real reason to come is that decisions about student representation should be made by students.
