Study Criticised

A study by University of Otago researchers that looked at childhood experiences, and discovered a link between traumatic upbringings and homosexuality, has been met with widespread criticism.
According to the study’s findings, people who have violent or abusive childhoods are three times more likely to be gay or bisexual. Since its publication the study has received significant disputation, with critics saying the research is flawed. Fears have also been raised that such findings will be used to support the myth that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. However, researchers point out that most of the participants who had traumatic backgrounds were heterosexual, and the study does not show that a traumatic childhood equates to homosexuality.
