How are you all? We hope that your start to semester two was awesome. You’ve caught up with everyone around this beautiful place, in classes, in your sports teams, or even at the pub. Now we hope for a better start to your second week of second semester.
 
Kia ora whanau,
You may not be aware but next week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori, hence the use of Te Reo in my greeting for you today. To make things a bit easier for you to understand, I have translated that small paragraph. Now let’s get some simple sentences for you to practice so you can use them next week.
 
Kupu Maori Translation
“Kia ora” “Hello” or “Thank you”
“Tena koe” (korua/ koutou) formal greeting for:
- one person (koe meaning you).
- two people (korua: you both, you two).
- all (koutou).
“Kei te pehea (koe/korua/koutou) “How are ___ (you, you two, all of you)
“Kei te (pai/hia kai/ngenge/mauiuiu) ahau” “I (ahau) am (good/hungry/tired/sick).
“Kei te aha (koe, korua, koutou)? “What are ___ (you, you two, all of you) up to?”
“Kei te haere (ahau, taua, tatou) ki te … I’m (ahau) we’re (taua, as in us two, tatou, as in all of us) are going to (ki) the (te) …
