The Otago Literary Society is running their monthly Book Club on the 20th of August, 6-7:30pm in Room 3, Clubs & Socs. This month they are collaborating with the History Students Society with the theme "History". Attendees can bring any literary text, fiction/poetry/non-fiction/films/video games/etc., that fits the theme to discuss.
The History Students Society will be hosting a free drop in vintage collaging session in the OUSA Craft Room on the Friday 21st of August, from 12-3pm!
ACT Leader David Seymour has proposed making student services fees optional for University students if re-elected in November. The proposal has been condemned by student unions across the country.
Independent bookstores report large orders of books being shipped to what is believed to be AI companies scanning the material to train large language models. A recent court case in the US reported that many of these books are being permanently destroyed after being scanned.

UNICEF Students Otago is holding a Dessert Spread on the 22nd of August from 11am till 4pm, at the OUSA Clubs and Societies Building, Evision Lounge. This event is fundraising for the Children of Gaza Crisis. Desserts will include halal and gluten-free options. Tickets are limited, and because it is a catered event, ordering tickets in advance is crucial. However, payment can be made on the day (or in advance, depending on method and preference).
