OUSA Exec: Daniel Leamy & Kamesha Jones

The second semester is well and truly underway, and OUSA has got some big things coming up! With Re:Ori behind us, we are looking toward candidate debates and voter enrollment for the general election, hundreds of club AGMs, and our very own OUSA elections in September. Plus, many more free brekkies and frunches ($5 lunch)!

This year, the OUSA Exec has spent a large amount of time asking ourselves how our roles fit into the wider OUSA – and if the internal structures of OUSA are best fit for the purposes of advocacy, representation and support of students. It has been quite the challenge, and it is far from over.

For a long time now, various Execs have felt that this core purpose of OUSA could be better supported by a less outdated governance structure. In many ways, the Exec does not have thorough oversight of all activities and direction of OUSA, and when they do, embedded systems prevent the team from advocating for and engaging with students to the full extent we would like.

We have spent all of the first semester designing potential solutions to this problem, and this semester we are approaching you, the student body, for feedback, collaboration and engagement with our vision for OUSA. We hope to make changes that will give the student representatives a more meaningful voice at OUSA and help all branches of the organisation to better support our shared purpose of service to the student body. Keep an eye out for feedback workshops, informative posts and an upcoming Student General Meeting (SGM). These changes cannot happen without you!
