Critic Exclusive: interviews with Presidential candidates

comment by Sexual Chocolate | 5:21 am, 18/08/2010

Not a single candidate has any clue about post graduate issues, and it doesn't look like they have much idea about under graduate issues either. The election is laughable much like the candidates. None have any plans to solve communications problems, resolve student apathy, plans for restructuring of student departmental services, tackling serious health insurance issues for international students, essentially there is very little in the way of substance. When voting numbers stand at 6% and 18% the organisation is defunct and has no mandate. The only reason it is in existence is because students are FORCED to pay fees whether they like it or not. The greatest threat is not the VSM it is the poor leadership within the organisation which about 90% of the student body either dislike or couldn't care less about. Much like any organisation when there is no support from the people it is dissolved. This toothless shambles people call the OUSA is a joke.

Critic's Contemporaries

by Susan Smirk | 11:36 PM, 05/09/10

As Critic reaches the ripe old age of 85, we decided to have a chat with some other 85-year olds about some of the highs and lows of their lives. Susan Smirk chatted to Jenny Lambert, who used to go dancing every night; May Munro, who once caught a 385-pound shark; Len Robinson, who taught Anatomy at Otago; and Joan Robinson, who watched Manchester burning from her bedroom window during World War Two.

GREEN DIETS - How your plate affects your planet

by Susan Smirk | 4:58 AM, 23/08/10

There are ever so many reasons to change what you eat, ranging from the laughable to the admirable. We make eating choices for the sake of our weight, our wallet, our health, our image ... or sometimes (and perhaps less often) our beliefs. Animal rights crusaders have campaigned long and hard to convince the masses of the evils of meats, but these days there is another concern changing the tabletop spreads of some homes. Today, more and more people are choosing to base their diets on minimising their environmental impact. Susan Smirk delves into a few 'green' diet options, including vegetarianism, veganism, and the vibrant new 'locavores' movement.
